the green why
one law of history · four voices

Every age crowns an idol.
Then it lives through the fall.

Reason, the state, progress, the will itself — each is enthroned, and each collapses, is carried into captivity, and slowly finds the long way back. One drama, repeated; many catastrophes, one law.

first beatIdolThe living is set on a throne and served as a scheme.
second beatCollapseThe idol breaks against reality and death.
third beatCaptivityThe exile in which the old self is undone.
fourth beatReturnNot a restoration — a remelting into something new.

Why the green why? Because after every collapse one thing keeps growing back through the crack — the living question that no idol could answer and no captivity could kill. This is the site of that question, asked across three thousand years.

What this is for

This is not a reference shelf. The site makes one claim and then hands you the evidence to test it: that every collapse — Babel, Rome, 1917, 1991 — runs the same four steps, and that the people who lived through them left the proof in what they thought, wrote, painted and composed.

Nothing here is sold and nothing is advertised. If you leave with one question you did not have before, that is the whole purpose.

Four voices of one drama
the spine

All four voices run along a single arc.

One drama descends through history — myth, antiquity, the cross, the modern idols and their collapse — and every figure, every work sits at its place on the line: a living double helix of 21 stations and hundreds of voices, from Eden to the New Kingdom.

who makes this

One person, writing under initials.

I write as A.M.Sh. — the same initials that stand on the books whose chapters you can read here. No institution stands behind this site, and there is no advertising on it.

It began with the books: four of them, about one wound. While writing, I kept running into the same story already lived — in every century, by philosophers, painters and composers who never met one another. This site is that finding, laid out so it can be walked.

the books

Not published in English yet.

What you can read here are the openings of chapters — one for almost every station of the arc. The full books exist; an English edition does not, not yet. If you would like to know when it appears, write to me and I will tell you. The same address is the right one for anything else: a correction, a question, a translation, a place to republish.
